Oscar de La Renta: Remembering a Fashion Icon

A great in American fashion design just passed away yesterday.  I found a picture that I took of Mr. Oscar de la Renta hugging Diane von Furstenburg at Bergdorf Goodman’s Spring Preview in 2012.   We will always remember this iconic designer who created stunning gowns worn by the likes of celebrities and political figures.
Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, de la Renta studied in Spain and apprenticed under the renowned Cristóbal Balenciaga.  He became a couture assistant at Balmain.

In 1965, he started his own eponymous couture collection which became a staple on the red carpet and high profile weddings for the rich and famous.  Oscar de la Renta was also the first Dominican to design for a French couture house, Balmain, from 1993 – 2002.
