If you know me, you’ll know that I have a sweet tooth and am a chocoholic. So I was delighted to join a press trip last week to Hershey, Pennsylvania, home of Hershey Chocolates.
After a 3 hour bus ride from lower Manhattan, we arrived at Hershey’s Chocolate World, where we toured the space and had lunch. They have a wide selection of lunch options including sandwiches, soups, hot entrees, and of course lots of chocolates! They even had pizza topped with chicken seasoned with cocoa.
We went on the Create Your Own Candy Bar tour where guests can choose their own ingredients and design their our own wrapper. You can choose up to 3 additions (4 if you count sprinkles). I chose to add pretzel bits, toffee bits, chocolate cookie bits and yes, sprinkles! It was fun to watch my chocolate go through a conveyer belt and get showered with yummy stuff. I then customized the design of my candy bar wrapper. It’s recommended that guests buy tickets in advance online, because the tour gets booked quickly. Prices start at $19.95 per person but there are discounts for groups. Check out my Instagram to see a video of my chocolate bar being made.
We then went on the Hershey’s Chocolate Tour where we learned how cocoa beans from the tropical rainforest transform into delicious Hershey’s chocolate. This was a free tour and you get a complimentary Hersheys chocolate! Afterwards, our group did a little shopping. There were so many choices but I decided to buy some chocolate mocha kisses that were exclusive to Hershey’s Chocolate World.
I grew up eating Hershey’s chocolates and have fond memories of visiting Hershey Park when I was a child, so it was so fun to visit again as an adult.
We also visited the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA), which was a short 5 minute drive from Hershey’s Chocolate World. If you’re a fan of classic cars, it’s a must-see attraction. The current exhibition is about vehicles that are used for work. We saw a vintage Good Humour Truck, Whitney Houston’s Limo, the bus from Speed and even a 1976 DeLorean prototype from Back to the Future! If you want to have a fun getaway from NYC that is not too far away, and you love chocolate or antique cars, you should definitely consider Hershey, Pennsylvania.
